Sri Lanka Suprised Me

I recently visited the beautiful land of Sri Lanka. It took me by surprise how beautiful this country is. So the trip started with Colombo where Raghav his show. We stayed at the Taj Samundra in Colombo for a day and a half where raghav was busy with his sound check and the show and me and Kiaan were chilling at the Taj property and enjoying the pool, kids area, spa and their facilities.

KANDY

Next day we left for Kandy which is a large city in central Sri Lanka surrounded by the mountains. We were amazed with the Buddist influence on the city in fact in the whole of Sri Lanka. As Kandy is famed for the sacred buddhist sites we decided to go and visit the Tooth Relic Temple. The golden-roofed Temple of the Sacred Tooth houses Sri Lanka’s most important Buddhist relic – a tooth of the Buddha. During puja (offerings or prayers), the heavily guarded room housing the tooth is open to devotees and tourists. However, you don’t actually see the tooth. It’s kept in a gold casket shaped like a dagoba (stupa), which contains a series of six dagoba caskets of diminishing size. The complex includes a series of smaller temples, shrines and museums.

HATTON

Then we drove up to the mountains of HATTON which is a town in Nuwara Eliya District. Hatton is a major centre of the Sri Lankan Tea industry. This was the fist time I had visited the tea estates and they were beautiful. We stayed at this beautiful property called THE FARM RESORT which was in between these tea gardens. Our room was beautiful and the view from the balcony was breath taking so we decided to enjoy that and not step out of the property. The resort had only 2 such rooms and we were lucky that we had 1 of them.

TENGALLE

Tangalle was our last destination so we were hoping that it turned out to be good so that we would end our holiday on a good note, but what it turned out to be was awesome. As we drove down to this beautiful place, we were amazed to see the blue water beaches. We were so surprised  to see that the beaches here were so beautiful n clean that it felt that we were in  Mauritius or some place like that. We were staying at ANANTARA PEACE HAVEN RESORT which is an amazing resort and that was an absolute add on the our final destination. I will write a separate blog about it as there is so much I would like to share with you guyz about this resort. To our bad luck it started pouring that day but we still headed out as we would at no cost waste our day on a holiday. We went out eating but there weren’t many places as it is a very small place so we decided to order in from the hotel which was a good call as the food was delicious there. Then we hit the amazing infinity pool and just lazed around. This for us was the most real relaxing part.

One of the Major attractions of the Southern Coast of Sri Lanka is the variety of beaches for surfing, most of which are within a 10 to 30 minute drive from Talalla House. Suitable for beginners, long boarders, and intermediate surfers and with enough A-frames and shallow reefs to keep experts happy too.We decided to go to one of such beach. We took our car and zoomed into these narrow  lanes which gave us the feeling that we were in Goa (India). We were not sure as to where we were headed too but as we reached our location and stepped out of our car, we were stunned with what we were seeing. If we were passionate surfers we would have thought were in paradise. And thats what it was called a paradise for suffers. I have been to so many places and seen people surfing but this was something else. There were people of different age groups just doing what they loved and were passionate about, SURFING. We were amazed to see so many of them there as we were not expecting Sri Lanka to be a surfing paradise out of all the places, but this country had amazed us from day one with their food, places, people so this too kind of sinked in. And while we were in the surfing paradise how could have Raghav not tried his hands on it. He hired one surf board and just dived into the blue ocean. Well he managed a few stunts but it sure wasn’t easy. And all I could manage was to pose with that board. That was my contribution and i was pretty happy with that.

And then finally came our last day in Tangalle. After the fabulous buffet breakfast and a dip in the pool, we drove drown to Colombo airport which takes around 4 hours, but because the roads are so good it dint really seem much. Our experiences of Sri lanka has been a beautiful addition to our travel kitty.
